Wedding Invitation Tips

• Make sure you have a well-organized guest list that is complete with full names and mailing addresses before you begin.
  

• Send Save the Date cards if your wedding is being held on a holiday weekend or at a popular destination. Typically these are sent 6-10 months prior to the event date so guests can reserve the date and make accommodations far in advance.

• Always order more invitations than you think you need. Extra guests may be added to your list last minute and the incremental cost at time of ordering is very low compared with having to place another order at a later date.

• Make sure you order extra invitation envelopes in case of mistakes. If you are not planning to hire a calligrapher, or if you need help assembling your invitations, enlist the help of your bridesmaids and close friends. Make it a fun event by throwing an invitation addressing party

• When ordering Response Cards or RSVPs, print the mailing address on the envelopes and include postage on the cards to make it easy for your guests to respond. This will also make planning easier for you because your final list will be confirmed quickly and efficiently. Ask for responses 2-3 weeks before the wedding to give you and your caterer adequate preparation time.

• A return address should be printed on the flap of the outer envelope so the invitation can be returned to you (or other sender, such as parents) if the address is incorrect or undeliverable. This will avoid any hurt feelings.

• Mail your invitations 6-8 weeks before your wedding.

• Take a sample invitation and all enclosures to the Post Office to ensure you apply the correct postage.
