Bridesmaid Etiquette
Keep in mind that your bridesmaids are all very special people in your life, and you want them to look great and feel as good about the wedding as you do. Here are a few things to consider in terms of bridesmaid's etiquette:
- Try to have a get together with all your bridesmaids. Lunch, an after work drink or if some people live out of town, a conference call or an online chat. Get their input with regards to color and style for bridesmaid's dresses and accessories. Then shop with one of your bridesmaids for ideas.
- Keep in mind that being a bridesmaid is a financial obligation. If you decide upon an expensive dress, you should consider covering the costs of shoes and accessories. Accessories also make excellent gifts for your wedding party. One other option is to have your attendants define their own style and choose themselves what they feel best finishes their look.
- Not all your bridesmaids will be the same size or figure type. Select a dress style that is flattering to most figures, or pick a color and fabric, and give them the option of two or three styles.
- For out-of-town bridesmaids, you can send them a picture or sketch or their dress. Or find out from the manufacturer which local bridal stores carry the gown, so that your friend can see the dress and get fitted. You can also have her send her measurements, you order the dress and send it to her to be fitted.
- If you are having a stylist do your hair and makeup, you should invite your bridesmaids to have theirs done as well.
- Communication. Keep everyone informed of key dates, pre-wedding festivities, hotel accommodations, transportation, and all wedding plans.
If you have single friends in your wedding party, keep them posted on available men!
